Home 2023 Kaukasus Goasttown in Karaköy

Goasttown in Karaköy

Before we arrive at the coast in Fethiye, we are having our lunch in Karaköy, an ancient abandoned village in southwest Turkey.

The ghost town, now preserved as a museum village, consists of hundreds of rundown but still mostly standing Greek-style houses and churches which cover a small mountainside. Kayaköy village serves as a museum and is a historical monument. Around 500 houses remain as ruins and are under the protection.
It feels strange to walk up this hill through these ruins… alone, nobody around.

We get some traditional pancakes and çay in the village and driving along the Lycian Way further to Ölüdeniz.
