So we build our unit on a subframe. The steel 4 point subframe fits our Unimog 2150L38. The 60 mm thick GFK panels consists of 5 layers, polyester, plywood, foam, plywood and polyester.
We started with a 3D drawing to see if all our ideas would fit. This is a great way to see the mistakes and we also got a better understanding of dimensions.
After traveling for 20+ years in an old Land Rover with rooftop tents we wanted something taller. As we started planning our kids where 13 and 15 years old and we wanted to build a truck where they could stay too. So there is a fixed bed for 2 adults and an sit area where you can lower the table and make a 140cm width bed also.
The Unimog has an 4 point subframe and adding the unit was a matter of minutes. In the unit we wanted to have glass windows because the plastic do get scratches fast.
Since we do not use any gas we placed 3 solar panels each 300Watt) on the roof.
